Dan Cederholm strikes again.

Dan Cederholm’s work has been an inspiration of mine for many years. I stumbled upon his website, Simplebits, back in 2005 and it has been bookmarked ever since. His use of web standards along with crafty CSS implementations, has kept me constantly trying to look over his shoulder to see what kinds of new things he has been creating.

Well today he has done it again, a new website design and book release “CSS3 for Web Designers”.

The new blog design is nothing to shout about, but it has a nice classy undertone with subtle effects, media-queries and you guessed it, simplicity. I am sure that when I find the time, I will throughly examine the inner workings of the site, hoping to discover a new way to polish my own development process.

His book release is another in the series by A Book Apart centered around the theme of creating “Brief books for people who make websites”. I read the first in the series by Jeremy Keith regarding HTML5, and I am highly anticipating this new book on CSS3 to arrive.

Recently spent too much time trying to figure out how to vertically center a link within its parent without using a table. This new CSS3 module (although still highly experimental) looks to solve my predicament, as well as work as a great new way to organize content containers. Imagine CSS development without having to use “float” for almost every element.

It was nice to come across this older slideshow again. A reminder for me to stay focused on the practices that I need to further develop, instead of getting caught up in one aspect of UX.

So I’ve always been a bit skeptical when it comes to downloading promotional apps on my iPod Touch. I usually stick to productive or non-productive apps (Angry Birds), and leave it at that. But something struck me as different when I came across Honda’s Digital Brochure for their new CR-Z.

“A hybrid unlike any other deserves a brochure unlike any other.”

After downloading the app I was instantly caught in a interactive trance lasting 10 minutes. The interface is quite simple, using the common knowledge that swiping is the new scrolling, I quickly understood to side swipe through the app. With subtle font transitions and clear clickable pushable interactive buttons, the user experience was very intuitive and enjoyable.  All in all, it was by far one of the best car brochures I have encountered.

Microsoft appears to be launching its new Internet Explorer browser shortly. It finally has some support for CSS3 elements which translates to leaner CSS markup by using more widely accepted conventions and attributes (such as RGBA color models and CSS3 Selectors).

This might mark the first time I’m actually excited to try a new Microsoft browser! Maybe this time they will get it right and everyone will upgrade sooner!

Start

For years I have just absorbed content on the web, making my way through countless notebooks, bitstreams, articles and blogs.  But through all of the learning and absorbing, I thought that it might be time to give a bit back.  You never know when a sudden thought provoking idea will come from.  I just want to be ready when it does, so that I may share it.

Much like everything else, there is always room to get better at design and communication, and it has to begin somewhere.  With aspirations to evolve this into something great over time, I think for now I’ll take it slowly.  Thoughts, inspirations, photos, and the like.  Tumblr seemed to be the perfect platform for just that, and while it may not look like much right now, at least it’s a start.
